2.5/3.0 owners - a small plea
« on: 22 December 2007, 21:27:32 »

With many of us doing a lot long trips over the holiday period, I urge all 2.5 and 3.0 v6 owners to do a paperclip test.

If a 19 is stored, get a crank sensor!

For those not in the know, a crank sensor failure is pretty much the only sensor that can cause a v6 to break down.  Trust me, I know, after mine finally gave up the ghost just outside Dijon, France, a couple of years back.

You usually get a warning of a 19 before it fails completely.  Be aware, that normally, this code being stored does NOT bring on EML.

My advice is to paperclip every couple of months regardless.

Mine started having difficulty starting from hot when it died, so if you notice symptoms like this, beware.

It was code 335 on the 3.2 IIRC, although you can't paperclip it, sadly.

Yes, 2.6 and 3.2 suffer the same issue, though not possible to paperclip. If you have access to a code reader, check for P0335 as Kevin Wood says....

Checked mine a couple of days ago. I keep a close eye, as it's done 110k on the original sensor, routed up through the cooler pipes...

No need for me to paperclip, but I did remember to unlatch the rear seat so that I can get back in when I get home . . .  ::)

(Battery dies, key doesn't fit door, can only get in through the boot.  :-[ )

I think I know what prompted this timely warning...   :'(  Thanks for the spot Jaime, and I'll be down the the dealers first thing Monday morning!   :y

I might still play it safe and take the wife's Fiesta to Leeds on Boxing Day.   :(
