Just replaced the front pads on my Omega, and managed to kill the little sensor thingies that attach to the pads on each side.....by kill, I mean the connection broke upon trying to remove from the old pads.

So, now I always see ** piccie here ! ** when starting the car, and last thing after turning off ignition.

So, the question is, can replacement sensor cables be bought readily, and is it as straight-forward as removing old cable and pluggin up new ones ? Seems to me that the cable connects to an accessible place in the wheel arch.....

Failing that, how to kill the CID warning ?

Finally, any tips on how to change pads without destroying these little connectors ? Even after looking at them off-car, seems they do not readily disconnect - wondering if they generally get replaced at same time as pads ?

Oh, and you always need to replace sensors when doing pads, they are ot reusable.  Or play silly beggers and short out the loom, and sod the sesnors.

Put a new brake sensor on mine today, by complete coincidence. Got fed up with the warning myself

Very true - roof and windows open and all sorts blowing around.....wonder if I can get away with claiming volcanic ash ?? 

Anyways, any ideas on the cost of said sensors ? And is it just the short~ish strectch between thingy in wheel arch and pads ? (note the technical terms used there.....)

from memory, £7 each.  Some have one each side, others just 1 side.

Its connector is in the wheel arch

Think it was about 15 quid with trade card, only one on my car, on passenger side

£9 for the pair from Camberley Auto Factors, but still easily broken if you don't know how to attach them to the pads.

To attach the sensors to the pads, stand the pad upright, push down (towards the pad) on both ends of the spring, then get a 3rd hand to simply slot the sensor in place, and let go of the spring you were holding......job done.

Attaching the sensor to the pad while it is on the floor is much easier, at least I found it to be.

They were genuine GM, and no, they ain't any less tight than the patterns (if anything, genuine GM are tighter on the fit).

Thanks, all - so I need to actually fit these to quiet the warning message ? Or can I get away with just removing the connector completely from t'other end as well ? ....(note laziness !)

The message  will go when the sensor circuit is closed. You need either new sensor(s) or chop the white plastic bit off & short the two wires together.

Liking the chopping idea - then again, I guess by the time I have the wheels off again....may as well fit the little fellas

You know it makes sense!     
They will just push into the butterfly sahpe anti-rattle clip.
