There comes a point when you have to say how much money am i willing to spend on it, And i have reached my limit, i cannot justify spending anymore money on it. Its false economy, also my job dictates as well, Im a Truck driver and my hours are antisocial sometimes i start work at 2 am or finish at 2 am, so i cannot be worrying whether or not car is going to get me there or get me home, as there aint no buses at that time of night, I may take the plunge and go for a new insignia, gonna sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

Don't make a hasty decision... It's very rare for an ECU to fail.

What are the problems?

It was diagnosed at main stealers today that a fault on my wiring had caused a short to the ecu, no power to cam sensor, no power to mass airflow sensor, intermittent, power to crank sensor, been told wiring is a mess, car ticks over at 700rpm rock steady, however it wont accelerate above 1200 rpm, Backfiring lurching, engine temp extreme, melting breather hoses, But not even a fleck of smoke exhaust is going black at the rear of the car looks a bit like a diesel been told its because most of the fuel is igniting inside the exhaust, i have spent 4 months and loads of coin trying to find the problem its been in 3 different garages and none of them can sort it, Ive just had enough.

I'm guessing here but I'd think that the LGP fitter caused most of these issues.  It would not be the first time that a LPG system has caused a whole host of problems

Ideally, you need someone on here who is an LPG expert - sadly it is not me :(

Hmmm... Sounds like an excuse (from the dealer) with a coverall diagnosis ::) ::)

If you have had enough then bear in mind that scrap metal has gone up in value ;)

it probably is the LPG wiring to blame, whoever fitted it didnt do a very good job Its a bit of a birds nest, as for scrap going up, when my car first went sick i bought another omega 1999 with the intention that if mine was goosed i would swap engines, however i purchased it on the 19 feb 2010 and it blew up on the 28 feb 2010 whilst towing my caravan, so i scrapped it and got £250 for it which lessened the blow. Ps I paid £500 for it  ;D

Please, Please, Please, Make sure you take the Insignia for a long drive before commiting to buy one, and under no circumstances get one that isn't diesel (unless it ends with VXR of course :y)

I work for Enterprise Rent A Car and we have loads of Insignias, and I also ordered an Insignia as my company car before they were even released (and before redundency stopped me getting it) and I must say I aint impressed :( :(

I am Vauxhall through and through, always have been, but they have really dropped a clanger with this new Insignia. It looks really good I must admit, but I have found the interiors to be very dark and claustrophobic, the diesel engines seem to be from a bygone age (when compared to the Mondeos), the clutches (for the majority of cars ive driven) are either on or off, theres no progression in them at all and the centre console creaks where your left knee leans against it.

I would seriously try a Passat or (and it pains me to say it ;D) a 2.2TDCi Mondeo.

Sugar a fly in the ointment, I looked at the passat and the mondeo, but i was going on price The insignia has been reduced from £19.500 to £15.500 I was looking at the Exclusiv 2.0 litre diesel 160 BHP, Which has a towing capacity of 1640kg which is more than ample for me, was gonna book a test drive tomorrow.

End of the day its each to their own, you may love it, and thats certainly the engine to go for, just needed to give you a couple of things to watch out for. I reckon you could get a pretty special Passat for that sort of money (with the amazing DSG gearbox, yummy :y) But for that money it would have to be a 6 - 12 month old Ford S Max 2.2 TDCi, my current favourite car. Amazing motor!!!!

As a footnote, the Insignia seems to be the car that recieves the most negative comments from people when you ask how they got on with it, and they appear to be pretty tyre hungry. But that could be because they're hire cars :D ;)(Drive it like you hired it :y)

Yuk! I'd not buy one, wasn't impressed at all. It'd have to be a proper torque converter auto for me or a normal manual if I had to, not sure I'd even want to tow to the end of the road with three pedals though. ;)

If i had 15k to spend on a replacement, i would go XJ Diesel  :)
