Need new rear passenger side shock.

Does explain why the rear end has been "loose" on poor surfaces.

Anyway, is this an easy job to do? Where should/can I get shocks from? Do they need to be done as a pair or OK to do single ones?

Elite saloon, so I think it has self levelling but not sure if this affects which shocks I need?

Do them in pair, definitely not good changing only one and not both.

Recently had our Elite Estate rears done were about £70 each with Trade Card so not too expensive compared to aftermarket non self leveling shocks at retail prices.

Westend Vauxhall in north London did (both) mine at a good price last year.  Made the world of difference to the handling!

Have got a quote (fitted), getting another tomorrow as well and will see what they come in at. So far, parts listed at £115 + vat each (genuine VX I think).

Is there any geometry related stuff that I need to be aware of if I were to DIY (I'm reasonably mechanically minded, you have to be having owned a Westfield and done numerous jobs on it ). I saw the thread about replacing the shocks, doesn't look too tricky.

But, if not too costly, I'll just get someone to do it for me as with my bad back, I don't really want to do much DIY these days......

I'n near Horsham if anyone knows anywhere good to get/fit them?

Been phoning round today, not much joy at all.

£140 from VX (each!) down to £115 with a bit of bartering.
Most places don't do the self-levelling ones.
Autovaux best so far at £195 for the pair delivered.
Kwik-Fit/Elite etc. don't do them either.
not heard back from andyc, tried calling too, no joy.

Anyone any other suggestions? Prob get delivered from autovaux and fit myself?

Currently looking at £195 from autovaux or £230 from VX but can pick that up without having to be in for delivery etc....

self levelling rear shocks are £150 a pair on trade club.

 But you need either a vauxhall trade club card if your in the trade, or an autobahn stormers trade club card for £20 when you join the abs club, several members have the abs card and gives full access to the vx trade club scheme.

So you can aquire genuine self levelling gm shocks for 170 sobs including the card price, and have access to trade club to boot which gives significent saving on all service items. Thats the way to go.

You wont find self levelling shocks from any other maker for the Omega. Marzochi used to do some but they dont work with the automatic hight sensing system as you have to pump them up manually and have reportedly been discontinued anyway.

Or you could just fit standard shocks and pull the self leveling fuse no 27, or pull the plug off the level pump in the front drivers side wing.
