What would you recommend for getting rid of the adhesive left behind when removing the badges from the bootlid?

I've always taken as much off with my fingers/nails without damaging paintwork, then t-cut does the rest also helps to blend in any colour difference

Hair dryer or heat gun then tcut as said above,works everythime

WD40. Let it dry for about a minute, it makes it go hard then it picks off in larger lumps.

What you need is a "Caramac Wheel" or "Toffee Wheel" it fits on to your drill/electric screw driver and removes the adhesive in seconds without any damage to the paint, I have one and its so simply to use, I removed a door strip and it took me about a minute to remove the adhesive along the full length of the door, you can get them from any Auto Paint Suppliers or ebay link below

I've always used white spirit. Allow 30 secondsfor the glue to soften and it will come off easily. White spirit has always cleaned off almost every glue I've come across with the exception of super glue (cyanoacrylate), acetone (nail varnish remover) will cope with that. Never found one that will deal with epoxy resin yet though.

I'm interested too, to replace my original badge for an Irmscher one. This may explain perhaps? ^^

In passing, anyone know how to remove the Opel badge on the steering wheel...? (To replace for an "i" badge, for the explanation) :p

I use variant of spraying thinners called 'gun cleaner'. Pre-paint was another name for it. It works on all surfaces and I have used it over many years on all types of finishes, interior and exterior without any damage at all - expect to the residual adhesive that is which just wipes away with a soft lint free cloth. Any sprayshop will probably give you a bit if you take a small bottle. Remember NOT to smoke while using it!

I'm removing the 'Vauxhall' badge and moving the 'Elite' badge to under the boot handle to clean the look of the bootlid up a bit - all part of the Opel badge conversion. I've also got a (old) small dent under the Vauxhall badge which I intend to sort out while I'm at it. The badges have also lost quite a bit of the chrome.
