Hi,

I've been looking at the (excellent) V6 cambelt change DVD and have a question.

If I'm only looking to change the waterpump do I need to actuallly remove the cambelt protective cover? Its just that it looks like in the DVD that there is quite a wide opening in the cover around the waterpump and I was wondering if it was big enough to get the pump out.

When you change the pump antifreeze mix will spill onto your cambelt, so you might as well do a cambelt change "while you'r in there"

a quick splash of a/freeze won't hurt the timing belt,if in doubt rinse with fresh water afterwards

There is no coolant in the system as its been flushed throug several times - so its only some water and it will be left for several days before being started up again ........

You can change the water pump without removing the outer cambelt cover, just rinse away any coolant from the belt.
If the old pump is reluctant to come unstuck from the block you run the risk of damaging the cambelt cover when persuading the pump.
Dont drop any bolts etc !!
