Is it possible to get the stuck on badges off without damaging them  ?

I need to get the badges off the tailgate on my estate to do some minor paint repairs(just below rear wiper) right where the round griffin badge is.

I've never had much luck myself, normally bits break off.
I use a hair dryer to warm it up a bit, then an old credit card to get them off. Sometimes they come complete, sometimes bits break off.
But, once it's off the glue won't stick it back on again.
It's not the cheapest option, but I'd buy new badges. Could be anywhere from £8 to £19 for rear badges.

as above but its difficult to re-use them unless you are good with the double sided tape and exacto knife :-?

Heat gun and knife or small screwdriver,as above its hard to get them to restick,try ebay for new badges

Plastic scraper behind the badges after pouring water from a boiling kettle. Never had a problem yet, go gentle and you won't have an issue, sometimes they snap but I got a lot off using this method and they didn't snap.

Get a good quality 1" wide fine gauge steel flexible scraper,get sheet of 360 grade wet or dry lay it on a smooth flat surface and hone both sides of  the 1" edge till razor sharp.all you need to do is slide the blade flat in behind the badge and use a slight wiggle action from side to side while keeping the blade pressed flat on the body this splits down the centre of the double sided badge tape. I've done lots like this the secret is that honed razor edge must be sharp and don't try to lever the badge off,hope I've explained it ok and it works for you.

Piece of cake to get the badge off.

Putting it back is a messy job.  Just get a new badge from FleaBay or Vx.  Not exactly expensive, and much less stressful than trying to trim double sided tape in that intricate shape.

Cheers chaps, i'll try warming them up and use a sharpened scrapper and see how it goes. Not too worried about the mess it leaves behind i can always get that off afterwards, just don't want to damage the paintwork too much if i can help it 

Now to find some new badges

I found "OMEGA 2.5 V6"badge on eBay from Opelise but i can't find an "OMEGA 3.0V6"

Does anybody know of any other sources apart from the main stealers ?

My badge on the rear of my elite estate says "Omega 3.0 V6" but I find the best way to remove them is with a piece of 10lb breaking strain fishing twine and two drill bits tied onto the ends to make a handle. pour hot (not boiling) water over the badge, and pull the twine along the adhesive from left to right. leaves the adhesive behind, but that is easily removed later.

Good idea, i hadn't thought of using fishing line. I'll get some off my neighbour when he comes home and give that a go i think, probably less chance of damaging the paint underneath

Yeah, have'nt ever damaged the paint, but after getting the adhesive off, used a bit of T-cut to clean it up where the badge was. The badges are easily avilable on evilbay or VX, but as an alternative, most good accessory shops sell individual chrome effect letters that are self adhesive and can spell out anything you like!
