P1700 - rich or lean exhaust
P0730 - Incorrect gear ratio
The latter is often a sign of a buggered thrust washer in the gearbox.....but ensure the oil level is correct.
P1700 can be raised by a few things.....MAF reading at idle would be useful.....also make sure the breathers and throttle body are spotlessly clean
I was going through the same problem. Friends 2.2, same fault codes. Every mechanic different opinion.
P0730 - lean mixture. First, he was told that it should be a MAF. It wasn't. Then he was told that it's a lambda...guess? Yes, it wasn't a lambda. My first guess was that there must be additional air getting through after the MAF. I have cleaned the throttle body. Small breather was completely blocked, so this stopped an oil leak from the rocker cover. Engine was running smoother, but still not right. And there was this whistling sound (air leak?), so I decided to remove the intake manifold. After removal it was found that two o-rings on injectors were missing!! This solved that problem.
P0370 (+P0748 Pressure Control Solenoid Electrical) - first we though it was caused by the engine fault but it wasn't. I got two solenoids (main pressure and TC lockup) but during removal of the small sump we have found remains of the thrust washer...

This means his autobox has to be dropped and repaired/replaced. Do you know anyone located south who's got a facility to do it? He wants to pay for it.
