Abs light and traction control
« on: 08 May 2010, 17:46:32 »

just been given a omega off my father as my car gave up and every now and again the abs light and traction control light comes on. This wont go off till i turn the car off and then back on but even then it could come on again maybe 5 mins up the road but sometimes 20mins etc... any ideas on this?

If you are also getting the speedo needle dropping down when moving and the steering seems to go heavy, sounds like the classic death throws of the abs ecu module.
It might last for a few days or several months before it completely goes...no major drama just very fiddley to remove and the about £130 to have refurbished,or you could get an identical unit from a breaker .

nah nothing like what you just said is happening but maybe that'll come soon like you said. Everything on the car bar these 2 lights coming on is fine and working as it should :D. just hope it lasts a few months till i save up some more money. Nothing bad can come out of it tho other than maybe ecu dieing?

If you are not getting the speedo failing then it may just be one of the sensors need cleaning up...or may well be that the ABS/TC ECU hasnt failed completely yet...

Check it your TC still working as well as Cruise Control - both these will pack up if abs ecu dies

checked tc and that works. also when the lights are off abs works fine. both dont work when the lights come on. Dont have cruise control on this model. Got some snow flake button thing that i dont think does anything (no lights show up when pressed) How do i go about cleaning sensors? (where are they) Thanks :D

it only works at standstill . As all other auto Vauxhalls it makes the car set off in 3rd gear to reduce the chance of wheel spin in snow. It switches itself off at speed (can't remember what speed though  ::))

ABS sensors look at a castle-ated
ring on each front hub & the rears are just inboard of the diff

The snow flake should get a it brighter. Maybe you've a dodgy switch, maybe lack of use  :-/  ;)
