No throttle control, Help please
« on: 09 May 2010, 16:21:44 »

Any advice gratefully recieved!
It started with misfiring when the car was cold, engine warning light coming on, hand held codes = O2 sensor fault which cleared. Then the misfire got worse, I cleaned the throttle assembly, & associated breather pipework.
When I refitted the throttle assembly initially there was control, then a backfire and steady revs @ 12000rpm.
The hand held came up with throttle minimum position not found, service required on throttle assembly & no MAF flow.
When I reset the codes there is throttle control, if I switch off the engine its back to 12000 revs.
I have trawled the forum for similar problems there are a few with various solutions, change MAF, O2 sensor.
My fear is that the throttle position sensor has failed when I cleaned the assembly 240 on ebay for a replacement.
The fact it resets could be 2 things (I think)
1 the reset overrides the logic in the ECU and allows a start.
2 the ECU has lost the signal from the TPS & requires to be reloaded, is this possible? maybe a dealer job?
Any advice welcome, thanks in advance.

Hello Folks
I have resolved the throttle problem, I took the solenoid to bits to check if anything mechanical could have come apart, all seemed OK. I put it all back together & it works fine, with a bit of luck it will stay that way.
Now I am back to the original problem misfiring.
I have changed the plugs & booked in for a  new exhaust tomorrow.
I will let you know how it goes, I see lots of misfire problems at the moment maybe someone will  find the real common fault.
