Brake Pad on MID.
« on: 16 May 2010, 22:19:00 »

Prob a silly question but.. Had "Check" and "Brake Pad" on MID display the other day. This came on and went off occasionaly but today is now on all the time. Do all the pads have sensors ? Is it advisable to change front and back at the same time?  :-/

Facelifts up late 2001 (I think) had one sensor on each front pad, later models had only one. No sensors on rears

I believe that its only the front brakes that have sensors,my 2000 facelift 2.5 has one on each side but later versions only get one.once they have rubbed through they need to be replaced or if you don't want them cut and join the wires together

Thanx for the replies. Had new pads fitted about a year ago on the rear when i had the handbrake done. Havn`t changed the fronts since i bought car approx 2 years ago. Didn`t want to be charged for front and rear pads with sensors if the rears don`t need them. Allways a bit of a prob when i go to get spares for my Elite. It`s a Jan 2001 X reg with a 2.5 engine. Keep being told "Oh no sir... you have a 2.6". I reply "Well it aint !" Must have been manufactured late 2000 and registered in Jan 2001. Thanx.  :y

The sensors that are on the front pads can be knocked out carefully with a small drift and re used on your new pads.If however the sensor has been damaged during the front pad replacement you can get new ones from your local stealer or you can sort out the remaining piece of wire that is left (and is made up of two seperate wires)  to complete the cicuit.I hope that helps.
