Autobox will not move out of 'Park'
« on: 17 May 2010, 10:07:47 »

Fired it up this morning, pressed brake pedal to engage a gear, "brakelight check" remained on dashboard.  gear lever would not move. tried several times. Finally moved after 5 minutes and "brakelight check" went out at same time.  Happened very briefly a couple of time last week. just thought I wasnt pressing the brake pedal hard enough.  Brakes opperate fine by the way.  Any ideas?

Faulty brake light switch! Try one of the breakers in the parts section :y

I concur, in this case, an intermittent brake switch.  IRO £15 from dealer I suspect.

I had this a few years ago in the south of France! There is an override lever at the back of the gear lever, below the bristles which I used as a get you home measure. It is shown in the owners manual if you have this.

That's the other option. What concerns me is the brakelight check not going out... That would mean you aren't showing any stop lights!! If it was me I'd be changing the switch as a priority.

Thanks guys.  It does indeed seem to be the switch.  Had a play with it this afternoon.  Off to get a new one tomorrow.  Thanks for the prompt replies. V impressed.
