Hi there.  I have been repairing my new omega and have now got to the stage of trying to start it.  Quickly - what it's doing is turning over ok, but there is no fuel getting up to the engine.  I have hot wired the pump, but still the car wont start.  Tomorrow I am going to check for a spark etc.  All of the sensors are connected correctly (I think) and all the air hoses are also connected up ok.  I am guessing there is an immobiliser problem as the battery was off for a couple of weeks.  Although the stereo works ok, which I believe is part of the immob system.  Just hoping maybe there is something you guys and gals can tell me about that I can check, or I have missed, to help me start the beast.  PLEASE!!!

Clip it for codes and doublecheck all connectors especially crank sensor. Without that signal the fuel pump will not deliver to the injector rail

Does the EML light go out when you are cranking the engine?

The ECU won't run the fuel pump unless it can sense a signal from he crank sensor to say that the engine is turning.

Err yes, I suppose it was, but...

if the engine isn't running you will get the 'no rpm signal' whatever the state of the crank sensor.

PS I can recommend the Cabernet Sauvignon

Most GM radio's need a 4 digit code after the battery has been disconnected & have no connection to the immobiliser.

The NCDC satnav units are coded (usually with the same code as the immobiliser but not necessarily) but they are not linked to the immobiliser either.

Hi All
Thanks for all your replies.  It was the crankshaft sensor.  I had not realised I had disconnected it, but found the two connectors completely apart when I looked up the back of the engine from underneath.  Anyway all is good now.  All I have to do is get all the oily prints off the wings!! and clean off the spilt oil from the previous camshaft cover leakage.  Previous owner!  PS What should these tick over at? mine is approx 500rpm according to tacho.

Idle speed is controlled by the ECU.

500-550rpm is normal without the A/C switched on and 600-650rpm with A/C switched on.

The idle is usually smooth at that speed so if it is rough then it points to something being not quite right
