v6 cambelt change - tip to save wasted effort
« on: 23 May 2010, 18:26:13 »

I just finished a 2.5V6 cambelt change - used the DVD guide which really does help.
The knock sensor (just under the crank) cable routes behind the tensioner and up around the timing cover - make sure you route it before putting on the aux belt tensioner and timing cover because if it flops down at the front of the engine (where all the other cables involved in this job are) you have to take off the tensioner and timing cover AGAIN >:(
I mention it because I found the aux belt tensioner extremely difficult to put back on (30 mins!) - the DVD makes it look easy so maybe I'm just ham-fisted, but just wanted to flag this little tip.

good advice john, had the same bother with my knock sensor. had to take the aux belt tensioner back off so i could route the wire properly and for some reason the bolts took ages to catch (a good half hour). i'll not make the same mistake again. Cambelt due in 15K :y :y
