« on: 28 May 2010, 00:42:56 »

...Probably...for two months now the front brakes on my miggy squeal like a bus. It got so bad at one point I WD40't the discs........ :o  worked for a while, then when the juddering had worn off,  ::)  ;D  Washing the wheels with copious amounts of water work for a while too but still the noise comes back. Oh well, out with the earplugs...! :-?

some pads are harder yes, but some pads have no anti squel shims on the back, meaning some pads painted backing brakes away with the pressure giving an uneven surface for the piston to press on making the pad osilate causing the squeal. Basickly as said buy new pads with decent anti squeal shims that are rivated or clipped on, not just stuck in with double sided tape.

If your discs show a rust band on the inboard edge you may as well change those as well, while your there...

Had the same problem last year with new Ferodo rear pads, kept squealing, changed them back to genuine GM pads and squeal gone :y

Adding WD40 won't help. :o

Better to stop noisily than crash silently IMHO. :y

Worth inspecting the brakes for wear, abnormal or normal. A lot of aftermarket pads don't have anti-rattle shims built in or supplied separately, although if the pads have previously been fine that's nto likely.

Also, while it's apart, file a chamfer on the leading and trailing edges of the pads. That might help.

apart from poosibly the first week after aplication where it may help a very mild case of squeaking brakes, i firmly believe this a myth banded around by copper slip manufacturers.

In a case such as this it'll make no odds at all. In fact i saw an omega a couple of weeks ago with so much copper slip on the pad it was dripping off the bottom of the caliper, and the brakes could be heard 500 yards away. Shims fitted, copper slip removed and cleaned off, no more squealing brakes.

I have just recently put genuine disks and pads on my front and was rewarded with a squeek under braking ..took great care cleaning everything and wire brushing pad carrier ,hub etc , didnt apply any kind of grease to pads and i was thinking thats why i got the squeek ... was planning to apply some copper grease this weekend to try cure it ... i asked this question below at the time but never got much in the way of replies apart from one ..... http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1274097102/new

I find the current trade club pads noisy at times. Generate a lot of dust too.

had exactly this question myself with trade crap pads, as only two pads have a shim on the back, an ex plod om which i've just replaced front pads and discs had the shimmed pad on the piston sides of the calipers. Could also remove the shims from the old pads and stick them on the new non shimmed pads. Also worth checking the pads sit flat on the piston or other "hoarse shoe" out board side and dont rock.

Trade club pads come with a severe chamfer on both leading and trailing edges of the pad material, yet they can still sqeal  :-/ however they come with minimal shim material on the back.
