James's 2008 Omega project
« on: 30 December 2007, 12:42:18 »

I'm not planning on doing lots of project cars next year, I want to do one reasonably big project.

I would like to buy a decomissioned Police Omega, preferably a fireams estate car (3.0 MV6 Auto) - failing that I would settle for a manual V6. It will have to be a facelift model.

I want it in all it's glory and livery - I believe this is legal to drive on the road, providing all the blues/police wording is removed?

The reason for this, is 'cos I'd like to take it to some shows, and maybe get involved in some track days, etc... and given the history these things have with the Police, I think it would be classy to have it looking like a "classic" police car.

Any ideas where I might go about buying such a project? I don't care about the condition of the engine, it can be a complete non runner - eg cambelt snapped - having reasonably straight bodywork is more important.

If anyone knows of where I could get such a thing, and what I would expect to pay, I'd be grateful to hear suggestions :y

Trouble is, mostly Volvo's down there now, police tend to sell after 3/4 years.

Might get lucky and see some '04 plate ones go though.

Sounds like fun.  If you tell us when you're going maybe a couple others will stop by.  :)

IIRC, it's against the lighting regs to have reflective blue battenburg, too, which might make it a bit trickier to have on the road...
