Spark Plug Electrode Erosion

I finally got round to fitting my new spark plugs today.

When I fitted new plugs to my last car I found that the spark gap on the old plugs was twice as big as that of the new plugs. The new plugs cured a misfire (on my old car) that I had wasted months trying to fix.

According to the service history they were changed at 78,000 miles and the car is approaching 125,000 now. 47,000 miles seems perfectly plausible looking at the state of them.

I changed cam belt & followers, oil, brakes, oil, air and pollen filters at 120,000 miles but it has taken me a while to get around to the plugs. All I need to do now is get the pliers I need to release the petrol filter  ::)

I have a theory that a lot of the poor running problems that people have with their V6's are down to old spark plugs.

The plugs are such a pig to get to that people tend to put off changing them far too long.

You've neer changed the 6 plugs in a Smart Roadster (Coupe) then!  :-? Half the rear end of  the car needs to be removed to get to the lower three (2 plugs per pot  ;))

good old basics.
james v6 elite had a massive fuel issue on a new motor.
diagnostics or couldnt tell that he had a big hole in his fuel tank! :)

what is it with some manufacturers to make service items so difficult to get to.

reno year on year never fails to amaze me with there antics :-?

mine are the same colour with out the oil on them, was going to change them but still work ok, why do they go red?? old car they went blue.
