Toe rag! smashed my mirror
« on: 04 June 2010, 08:53:28 »

Had a call from my No.2 daughter (chronologicaly speaking), very tearfull, she had borrowed my 2000 facelift omega estate to travel to work, whilst I was fixing her astra.
A motor cycle courier had squeezed through too small a gap between her and another car in the adjoining lane of traffic and smashed out the mirror glass on the nearside of my mig' (Ba****rd !!!!!!!!! >:() He of course is gone in a flash on the way to the scene of his next 'accident'. Mirror housing is OK but glass gone.
Any ideas on cost to replace and or part No please guys?

LOL
I once smashed my mirror out of housing.
Hit the brakes to stop and look for it, turned the emergency lights on.
Went down the road for about 200 meters but i was sure i hit the wall not further than 30 meters ago :D, came back and repeated the walk just to discover that it was hanging out of the housing by the cables in one peace.
Maybe You should check if its still there as well? :D
joking of course.

Ouch! £40.   Had a look at the car once she got home,no trace of the old mirror glass just two wires with female spade connectors hanging. Not the sort of part I've replaced before except many moons ago when I bought a stick on mirror (£2.50) which stuck to the old glass. This time there is no old one to stick anything to. Read some mention on suppliers site about a back plate plus mirror. Haynes manuual no help at all. She's offered to pay but I suspect this is one the bank of' Mum & Dad' will probably stand. Can any fellow OOfers' suggest any links to suppliers other than stealers out there? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys :(

Thanks for sharing your thoughts plus the advice guys. Bearing in mind the suggeted price of £40 for a GM replacement I sourced an aftermarket replacement from a supplier on Ebay (see the link). I've yet to fit it and of course at this stage I can't vouch for it's longevity. I've opened the box, it arrived today. It's apparent it's not OE quality but would pass MOT test. If you're on a tight budget then this may serve a purpose for you, so I thought you would like to know about it.

I hope it does the job for you, but usually these are designed to be stuck onto an existing cracked mirror.  ::)
