Won't start
« on: 13 June 2010, 10:37:11 »

Hi folks,

Prefacelift 2.5 v6 won't start!

Paper clip test showed nothing - if it was crankcase sensor something would show? Turns over fine, just won't fire. Plugs ares almost brand new, everything else looks fine.

Have had this problem a couple of times over the past year, but after a day or so would come back to the car and it starts fine.

Was thinking perhaps an immobiliser problem?

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

If it was an immobiliser problem the EML would flash as engine is turning over. Check for fuel delivery and spark at plugs

if the imob chip is secure in the key then i'd be tempted to say crank sensor symptoms, they dont always show a code.

Gents, many thx.

Tried it for about 3 hours, maybe 10 tries. Used both keys. Then left it for an hour and it fired up fine with spare. Now works absolutely fine. This is just like the last time it happened - nothing for a few hours, and then fine. Would this suggest it is electrical, rather than fuel line? As mentioned, nothing on paper clip test. Now i can move it, will get under it and have a look at crankcase sensor for poor connection.

Got 2 other hoses with splits, one minor (pic attached - labelled 2), and a big split in the one with the yellow tape. Blows out air (making whining noise) for about 20 secs when started, then stops. Could these be affecting it?

Once i've looked at c/case sesnor (fuel lines seem fine - it's got a new filter on it - so unlikely), are there any other things i can do to identify the cause?

Many thanks everyone

Ahh found this - http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,3390.20.html

Appears this can be an issue for some - if not c/case sensor, then immobiliser. Apparently this can be bypassed altogether with a quick bit of re-wiring. Will have a go with this next time it happens.

Thx
