Omega 2.0 facelift manifold.
« on: 14 June 2010, 22:05:24 »

Hi, ive just checked out my exhaust as it was blowing and it seems to be at the join of the manifold and front pipe. havent looked any deeper but worst case scenario it may need a new manifold how easy are these to take off? i notice there is a pipe bolted onto the heatshield?

Are all 2.0 16v ecotec manifolds the same? i.e from vectra/astra etc. And how much roughly second hand?

Thanks in advance.

easy to take off, but may need a drill to get the studs out that will snap off, are the same as vectra ecotec, if its a crack in it, it can be weld'd, will need new studs and gaskets wire brush and stud remover. and 8mm drill bit,...

Its not bolted to the heatshield (at least not on 2.2) its the exhaust down pipe, there is not going to be much movement in that.

On my 2.2 the exhaust manifold had a crack in it.

Get it replaced, a new one cost GM part roughly £120 ish delivered from ebay.

Thought mine looked a bit daunting to replace especially with two broken studs, but they came out easily and replacement went on ok. It's just those bolts holding the manifold to downpipe that were a big of a pig to get at. You need a long extension to attack them from under the car. Jack it up for better access, wheel off and get an axle stand under there, and another to support the loose exhaust. :y

No on the 2.0 there is a mounting that is bolted to the heatshield, it holds some sort of rubber pipe which then goes into a metal one?

Secondary air injection stuff I think.
There's a bracket that you have to undo from three places IIRC, one of which is down by the non-return valve that the rubber hose goes onto.  Bit of a fiddle to get a tool on from underneath.
Once that bracket's off, the heatshield comes away, provided that the bottom fixing isn't seized solid...

All the metal SAI pipework comes off with the manifold, and comes off the manifold, though I've never had to do the latter (yet).

if you need to make some space can undo the engine mounts and two on the gear box and move a bit on a jack and stands but becaful of the radatior, there is a bolt on each pipe from the secondery air pipes think they were 10m they are sealed in as well do mind the abs as can damage it when pulling off the manifold off the studs that are left,, also dont let it drop as can make it harder to get out if not off the ground on stands. good luck :y
