Hope someone can help with this. I've recently had the crank pulley replaced on my 2.2DTi, and while I was at it had the garage replace the belt tensioner and belt. All seemed well for a few hundred miles, but then the aux. belt snapped. Replaced with another one, as (long story short) the garage needed in the interim to replace the crank oil seal, and the first aux. belt had become oil-soaked. Now this newest (only 10 miles or so) aux. belt appears to be getting ready to snap/strip all its rubber out ... and I'm wondering, what the hell is going on?

Could the tensioner be too tight? The pulleys all seem perfectly aligned, so not sure it can be that ... v. strange, it is.

From the way the tensioner tightens things up, it seems that there's no adjustment possible, it just tensions according to an internal spring or damper.

Anyone any idea about this? I'm in the process of selling the car, but don't want to sell someone something they'll end up hating me for. Karma and all that stuff.

it may be the wrong crank pulley, if looking straight down, should be in a straight line even a mil out will rip the belt, if you had the old one to compare with the new would be easier to see if its different. also look at alignment all round the belt.
