EXHAUST GASKET BLOWING
« on: 11 June 2010, 12:28:15 »

Have a small exhaust manifold gasket blow, which appears to dissapear when it warms up, but becomes apparent again when I accellerate hard.

Is it a hard job?
Should I let my local exhaust place do it?
Is it expensive?

Thanks Fellers.

Right, I haven't done the drivers side before but passenger side, whilst being a fiddle, wasn't too difficult if you put aside the trouble with the B****rd bolt.

Do use a VX gasket and not some cheap pattern part. They are about £10.

if its passengers side you are in trouble.. there is no space to work.. and rusted bolts are like a trap..

best and easiest approach is engine out..

someone knows more, spill out now.. ;D

Depends on your exhaust. I dont know about the 2.5, but the 3.0 has a separate exhaust from each bank right through to the tail pipe, so if the tester puts the probe into the 'good' side, then there is no reason why it should fail.  Having said that, if the leak is very minor, and lessens when hot (expansion) then you might get away with it anyway.
