I have just replaced my headlight adjusters with the nice ali ones from Sparkesandnoise as my O/S one had broken and it seemed a good idea to both at the same time. I now have to reset the headlights but first i have a couple of questions.

Question 1, In the handbook it gives settings for LHD and RHD vehicles being driven on the continent but no reference to RHD vehicles being driven on the roads in the UK. Would i be correct in saying that both the N/S and O/S beam adjuster levers should be set in the DOWN position on a RHD vehicle being driven on UK roads ?

Question 2, I know both my headlights need to be reset for aim as the O/S is a bit too LOW and the N/S is a bit too HIGH. Now there are 2 adjuster screws on the top of each headlight, a short one and a long one. Which adjuster does what ? is the long one the HORIZONTAL or the VERTICAL adjuster ?

The one on the outer side of the headlight adjusts height

Here's what it says in the handbook, all references to continental driving, but not a lot of good if your in the UK. What i want to know is what position the levers should be in for driving on UK roads   :-?


Headlamps when driving abroad
The a symmetrical dipped beam increases
the field of vision on the passenger side of
the lane.
This causes glare for oncoming traffic if the
vehic le is driven in countries where traffic
drives on the opposite side of the road.
To avoid glare, switch both dipp ed b eam
headlamps to symmetric al dipped beam:
1. Open bonnet.
2. Remove headlamp protective cover: turn
rotating lock through 90° using a coin
and remove cover.
3. Remove the headlamp c ap. 4. Adjust lever shown in illustration:
Left-hand drive vehicles
Left-hand headlamp = Move lever
downwards
Right-hand headlamp = Move lever
upwards
Right-hand drive vehicles
Left-hand headlamp = Move lever
upwards
Right-hand headlamp = Move lever
downwards
5. Check light/dark limits of d ipped beam
(e.g. in front of a wall):
Horizontal = Symmetrical
Angled upwards = Asymmetrical
6. Place the headlamp cap in position and
close.
7. Refit the headlamp protective cover and
secure with rotating lock.

You need flat ground and a wall....drive upto the wall and turn the lights on....mark the bright spot on the wall.

Move the car straight back a few meters and then adjust the lights so the bright spot (which will the kick up point of the pattern) is about 10mm below the mark.

Repeat to check.

Works everytime and always passes the MOT

I've got the height about right now just got to get the beam aiming a tad more to the left now and jobs a good un
