Quick temp question

Readin the other posts today and made me think,my 2.5v6 on open road runs midaway on temp dial as soon as I stop temp goes up to about 102 and fans kick in temp goes down but quickly goes up.have flushed system and replaced fluid.but stool same.is it worth changing the temp senser on rad or am I worrying for no reason!

I think there are two fans - one kicks in at about 95 and one at about 100. You could check the fuse for the fan as a start

Do you have air con on the car ?? if so try running with it on all the time ... this forces the "normal" fans to run at low speed.

If they don't it sort of proves the low speed fans are not working and your system has to wait until the overtemp fan kicks in ....

This is not good as you are slightly overheating every cycle .. which can lead to early headgasket failure ..

Thanks for replys.will chaeck fuses.aircon needs regassing so I've not used it.will it still cause fans to work without has in??

I believe so .. the compressor won't kick in due to low gas .. but I think the fans should behave as normal..

2.5 Elite, 1 plus 2 fans (total 3) fan 1 clicks in at 97 then the other 2 click in at 100.
Suggest the rad needs a clean out/replacement.
'Fan Test' maybe worth a try.

Running the Aircon will also make the car run hotter.. incase you have a cooling issue as the hot air is chucked out straight to the main rad.. excellent design feature
Check your tank cap / tank neck for leakage also   - this was the cause of mine running hot and heating up when shut off..

Not to dodge answer to your question there are whole bunch of interplays which are simulated but perhaps at the first level one should observe the information in actual operation as in the following thread,

There are a bunch of conditions one can observe for the following scenarios for example,

-  Ignition on without starting the engine
-  Start the engine and observe under cool start conditions
-  AC on and off with engine running
-  Turn engine off after a trip to observe operation

It will not be possible to emulate all kick-in and kick-out operation of the various fans and relays this way but the key conditions for normal operation should be observable.

Hope it is of some help ;)

I realize it does not fully answer the question  :(

PS:  Detailed maintenance level full testing requires jumpers and fuses of various varieties to be placed, moved around in the relay panel test points under the bonnet.

I would replace the rad - I had the same temp problems on my 2.5. In the end the rad blew - and running too hot had wrecked the head gasket. Get it replaced! :y

ok have checked the fans!not working!blower on full or low and the aircon on or off they dont move!so checked fuses under bonnet and nothing wrong there!so what should i do next?

Lots of fuses / relays  ... make sure you check methodicaly .. this link might help ..

When mine stopped it was fuse 8b on the picture .. also known as F52

Ok I checked every fuse and all are good!so what to check next?even cab fuses are all ok.how do I check relay?all fans work when car gets hot.is it worth getting aircon topped up so it works and see what happens?
