3.2V6 oil in plug wells and misfire - Help!

Hi Folks

My 3.2 runs fine for 10 mins then when it heats up it goes off 1 then 2-3 cly. 

There is a lot of crusty deposits at the front plug area in each V and the 2 rear plugs in each V are full oil.  I presume it gets worse as it warms up due the the oil vaporising and getting into the coil pack.  Also the viscosity thinning and compounding the problem.

Is this a common thing?  Does anybody have a good fix for this?  New gasket?  If so which one?

Just got the car and I am really disapointed that its let me down so early in the ownership process.  I hope I can fix it and start to enjoy it again!

Camcover gaskets deffo need replacing and possibly the coilpacks. Also new spark plugs http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564281

ok, thanks!

I take it thats a common one then?  It doesnt look like too much of a bugger to sort, access seems ok to remove all the gubbins.

This is a very common problem. It is very important to clean the breather system when you do the gaskets. This will prevent it from happening again. :y

2004 04 plate Ex police 111k miles, no holes and very tidy!

Hi Folks

Ok, I did the strip down today and ordered the gaskets, o rings and plugs.

Do you think its worth getting 2nd hand coil packs or going for new ones?  I dont know the price difference but would appreciate your views on best practice for a long term solution!

I dont want to be stirpping this down again soon!

Does anybody know where the best/cheapest place is to get new/used coil packs?

OE?  :-/ They're dear but work.
Pattern don't last, they go hard & then you're back to square one  :(

Yeah OE, I am following the guide on this forum.

Whats the crack with the coil packs then?  OE also or good used part?

I hope this sorts the problem, could it be anything else?

Vauxhall Coil Packs retail are approximately £105 for Cylinders 1,3,5 for 3.2.
Same for 2,4,6.
Trade Club price approximately £80 each. :y

I suppose it depends how much you're paying for a 2nd hand coil pack, but they do say that you're better off with OE coil packs too instead of pattern. Plugs swimming in oil is often the cause of a misfire.  ;)

To be honest the first time it happened it the plugs were swimming in oil.  I cleaned it up and it ran better for longer. 

I assume that although there is no oil in the wells now the reason it still goes off clyinders after 10mins is the damage the oil has done to the coil pack(s)???

Might be worth changing the plugs first, but the likelihood is the oil has damaged the rubber boots at best.

Well oil and rubber don't get on, it eats rubber, so the rubber weakens and let's the spark escape, heat also a factor as it warms up at that stage. May also see some cracks in the plastic of the coil PAC itself, fubar if so.

Could do a pedal trick to confirm a misfire code. See paperclip test in maintenance section.
