Power steering issues

Hi
I have a problem with my power steering. Its very heavy when idling but rev the car and its alot better.
Is it just the pump that needs replacing also is it a big job/cost. thanks.

Same issue that mine has at the minute, if its just at idle then it will be the pump, on the diesels it isnt the worst job in the world.
I would just have a browse through ebay for one.

I have same issue, was told by an admin to try draining and replacing the ps fluid first rather than spending money on parts, still not got round to it as it's only an issue trying to park! driving is fine

it was a pig to park. had same problem changed the pump fine now wasn't a hard job just fiddly but then i have a 2.0 so it's abit diffrent i think

For a temporary fix until i get round to fitting a new one, ive just tensioned the throttle cable so it idles at 1000 rpm when warm, which is when the pump starts working, simples  :P

Try replacing the pump as i have recently had the same problem and it is due to the vanes inside being worn out as your problem is identical to mine. You can get a pump (2nd hand) off ebay for £40 plus postage from Omegaspareparts in Heathrow (Harmondsworth) The guy who runs it (Steve)breaks Omega's and is top notch for all Omega parts as long as you don't mind that they're used. Tell him Les in Hayes sent you. Then you just need to fix it to the engine block (not too hard) but my mechanic will be doing mine for £80 along with a new Cam Sensor and pre MOT checkover.

Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

Its the pump.  Nice and easy to change on the TD (isn't it Omegatoy ;D).  If getting 2nd hand, ensure its a know good one, as its a common issue.

Not sure if TD is different to petrol pas pumps.

Interstingly, all the ones I have looked at the vanes have shown no signs of wear, the only thing that was evident is that some were stuck

which would suggest a few fluid changes could 'cure' them  :-/
