Interior panel scratches off

My black mig has the creamy/beige interior, and the plastic door panels, especially the pocket doors, seem to be covered in a coating so the're not shiney. This seems to be really easy to scrape off, leaving me with a lot of scratches to these panels. It also seems to be the same type of coating present (in black) on the NCDC2013 & surrounding areas & switches.

Is this normal?

I'm thinking the only way to reapir this is to polish off the whole coating, but this will take hours & be very fiddly.
Not really bothered about it leaving me with shiney panels, but what a pain in the arris!

when I bought mine I thought it was just a bit grimey. I used fairy liquid and water and washed it all off using lots of elbow grease and it came up a treat. Now it's back. i don't know what it is but i keep on having to take it off/wash it away. i just keep on top of it, it doesn't scratch on mine though

no, this is definatley the factory applied coating, as i said, the center control panel is coated in a black version, then the labels are (screen?)printed over the top

I have the same problem on mine. It is this so-called soft-touch coating that was used in the first half of 2000 by a lot of brands. I have seen similar scratch problems on Audi's, VW, BMW and Renault.
I was thinking of taking it off myself as well, but I am a bit afraid of the result.

I've removed it from the area round the window buttons on the drivers door, using a credit card as a scraper so as not to damage the plastic underneath. It leaves a shiny surface below, but is gonna be a really long job to do the whole area (pocket flap etc)

As I say it's happened a little on the dash, but if you scrap that, you'll not have the button legends left!

May try the breakers for an old panel (unless anyone here has one spare?), then experiment with different solvents to see if there is a quicker way of removing the soft-touch coating, as the surface underneath is not un-attractive, and will be easier to clean

Understandably nervous about solvents damaging the actual plastic, hence the test panel

It is indeed a 'soft touch' coating, I've never had a facelift Omega (out of 13 so far) that's not had some issue with the coating. I think the best way would be to get a spare door card and experiment, by trying to take it all off, or apply something over the top of it.

My driver's side one was getting bad, so I removed the soft touch rubber & sprayed them all "Piano black", looks better and is wipe clean.

I have the same problem mate.I noticed the sun actually causes it to crinkle and peel,and thought about applying some gentle heat to remove the lot. :)

i got that same interior and problem with mine, not sure what to do with it as sometimes when im sitting in the car i end up scraping bits of as it looks terrible sumtimes.

That looks excellent mate, really good job.
What did you use to get the soft touch rubbish off?
& what sort of paint did you use to re-spray?

Seeing as mine is the same colour scheme as yours, I'm definitely going down that route! :y

My Lad did the work, but if memory serves, he used a scouring pad, came off a treat. The paint he used was ordinary black Primer with Lacquer over the top, nice effect, I think it looks subtle, better than harsh Jet Black.

No reason why you shouldn't go for Cream paint, you car your choice.  ::)

I also am thinking of doing this but on a bigger scale.
On mine that pocket underneath the switches is also heavily scratched.
Anybody tried using very fine grain sandpaper to remove that film?
