LPG cutting in and out ?
« on: 16 July 2010, 13:14:01 »

Iirc the LPG is operative when the green LED is on constantly and is inoperative when the LED is flashing ?
I have just driven approx 7 miles  from cold with the led flashing, stopped for 5 minutes, when I restarted the LED came on constant. It then continued to alternate between on/ flashing for the next few miles until I got home. There is gas in the tank.
I know absolutely nothing about LPG systems, but I suspect its cutting in and out for some reason. Anyone have any ideas ?

You could see if there is an air lock in the water feed to the reducer/vaporiser Albs, give the hoses a good squeeze with the engine at idle & see if they get hotter? :y

Yep, most likely coolant supply to the vapouriser is not great so temperature of the vapouriser keeps dipping too low.

Flashing LED normally means set to run on LPG but switchover criteria not met.

Does it switch back to petrol during hard acceleration or just at random? Other possibility is that the vapour pressure is getting low due to (for example) a blocked filter but would expect this to happen only when the engine is demanding most fuel.

Is that a Stag system? Can't remember...

How does it run (on LPG), if you force start it on LPG only?

Most systems vary for force start, but try: Ing on, hold the lpg switch in for a while until the green led stays lit, then start engine, may take some cranking if its cold.

if you drive without radio on you should hear the tank solenoid click into life, can you hear that switching?

Right... Know this system as I've played with the set up in the past for the previous owner. It's a stag system but with different Vap and injectors (and not a particularly tidy install but sound).

You need to get it plugged into the laptop and check the Vap temperature... My money is that the temp sensor has given up, which I had a while back and caused the same symptoms :y

If you're really stuck I may be able to have a look next weekend

Thanks for all the replies chaps, they have been most helpful. :y
I have had a bit of a play this morning  - put the climate on HI and burped the cooling pipes, the pipes which supply coolant to the LPG system were cold but after burping I felt them start to get warm and then heard the clickety clack of the injectors (solenoids ?) starting up.Took it for a drive and it ran perfectly, but was a bit concerned that it seemed like too simple a fix and perhaps there is an underlying problem. Then I read Lazydockers post, so now have a good clue as to what the underlying problem might be.
Next question - where is the temp. sensor and what does it look like ? :-/ :-[ ::)..........is there any way that I could test it or is it strictly a job for the laptop, and how much is a replacement ?
Paul (LD) much appreciate your input (and everyone elses ) if I cant get it sorted myself I may well take you up on your very kind offer - at a time and place of your convenience, many thanks :y :y

Could be a simple airlock in the vaporiser, could be the sensor which is (I'm afraid) a laptop job to watch the reading. Sensor will be attached to/screwed into the Vaporiser :y

As for help... If it's needed I'm sure we'll sort something next week if needed ;)
