Frontera.
« on: 06 January 2008, 20:10:43 »

Not often i turn up here but a mate's got an S reg SWB Frontera first reg 01. 12. 98. It's only covered 58,000 but is going to need a head gasket soon. It's fitted with the later version of the 8v 2.0 engine.
Could anyone post a page we can print off giving the timing marks/setup, and a picture of the head tightening sequence please. We have the torque wrench with a dial and know to go round the studs 4 times in total but not which order.
Any other tips appreciated, Cheers, Guy.

Lol......its dead easy....head bolt sequence is the same as any engine and the timing is as easy as lining up the crank mark (its at 6 Oclock), lining up the cam mark (its at 12 Oclock), fit the belt with no slack in the right hand long run and tension (turn counter clock wise) until the marker is aligned with the mark for a new belt (4mm to the left for an old belt) and jobs a good un.

10-6-2-3-7
 o-o-o-o-o
 o-o-o-o-o
 9-5-1-4-8

Head bolt sequence (torque = 25Nm +90 +90 +90) is as per above, use the reverse for removal.

I set the crank 90 deg before TDC (3 Oclock) on the 4 pots when doing heads as the psiton are all half way down the bores so there is no risk of valve damage

There is a green sealent (as used on the front cam caps on the Omega and often supplied wrongly by the dealer for the cam cover gaskets) that has to be applied between the the cam carrier and the head surface, use the right stuff or it leaks.!

If you change the water pump then when you fit the new one make sure you align the lug on the pump with the casting lug on the block or you wont be able to set the belt tension correctly.

I assume its the S20XE?

Ow yes, moved to chat because not strictly Omega related!  :y

Does this engine have the 15deg tolerance turn Mark?

No, but then its not essential on the V6 or 16V units either if you get the first sets of 90 right  :y

I should have added to the above, check the head for flatness and given that the headgasket has gone it sudgests a lack of antifreeze and/or regular changes so inspect the head around the outer cylinders for opeing out of the water ways due to corrosion of the alloy.
