Drivers door lock won't open
« on: 20 July 2010, 14:12:54 »

Had an intermittant door solenoid for a few weeks, not got round to fixing it with the guide, we usually open it with key fob and lock it manually.
Today it just won't work either way so we have to scramble over from the passenger side.
Has it just seized or am I just missing something?
All other doors work fine.
I'm possibly guessing it's lost the will to live as it was not fixed earlier! ::)

Just to confirm it is locked solid as in deadlocked!

I am guessing the same, that it has seized in the locked position. A new/2nd hand solenoid SHOULD fix it to my best knowledge.

Why oh why was there never a V8 Omega????
Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

sounds like its failed, it will unlock with the key, just needs about a million Nhm of torque applied to the key, it will turn!

Then just follow my guide for replacing it  :y

Cheers tunnie, I did try a lot of force on key but nothing happened, I will give it another go, these things always happen after the wife drives it :-/

Have you tried turning it to the right and lift the handle up at the same time. It worked for me once.

Beware, the lock button may not lift, but you will find the door is open ;) ;)

Yep, sounds like the solenoid has failed in the deadlocked position.

Probably belated advice but it's best to avoid deadlocking the car if you know it has one or more intermittent solenoids. Hopefully it will unlock OK with a key.

Don't forget I P, when you turn the key NOTHING happens, so unless you lift the door handle as well, you wont know if it's open or not! ;) :y

Hi I did tunnies forcing trick, it clicked like something snapped then I tried the door and all was ok door opened, problem then was as I have an alarm fault we use the drivers lock to lock all the doors with out setting alarm(reaching round from back).
So we would of had to lock each door seperately as I was having to snap lock the drivers door then unlock it with keyfob(to disarm alarm) then reach into car to lock it all!

Thankfully the forcing action has made the solenoid work again!
Time now I guess to strip it down using your new guide  :y
