Problem is its been rounded off due to rust, the standard (8mm?) spanner works on one side, but slips on the other, can't get the size smaller on.

Suspect a 'magic' socket should cut in, or use of plyers should get it going, but need replacement.

I'm not sure if its M7 or M8 though  :-/

Wot he says. Build up a well of bluetak or plastercine around the nipple & fill it with Plusgas, & repeat  . Sometimes 'judicious' tapping with a small hammer can help shock it into submission. If it shears, you either need A N Othe caliper, or a machine shop to drill it out carefully.

M8  Use a hex socket, but not a great big 1/2" drive ... you'll shear it, and carefully try it back & forward. Chances are it'll undo without breaking.

I don't think its seized, just corrosion has made it 'un-gripale' with the spanner 

Using a hex socket will be better than an open ended spanner.  And smear a little copper grease on the new one when you fit it.
