Radiator Fans
« on: 26 July 2010, 20:10:12 »

Hi i have a 2.5TD it's been heating up quickly under load. Whilst checking as previously suggested that my rad wasn't just filled with leaves etc, I noticed a multi-plug off. It plugs into the the rad directly under top hose. As the temp gauge works, is this the temp sensor for the electric fans. I hope so 'cos it's caravan time this weekend and with it heating up with no van on the back I'm a bit worried.

Thanks

Dunno on the diseasels, but on our petrol model the radiator fan thermoswitch is where you describe.  It brings on the fan via a relay or two as it gets hot.  Plug it back in, and hope that it wasn't disconnected because the fan was running non-stop.

That should be the fan switch,It should be connected. the switch should be easy to see,if its not got the plug on,bridge the plug and the fans should start straight up,but youve got to ask yourself, why its unplugged

Thanks the fans don't run continuously phew. So the question is do they run when engine gets hot I left it idling for ages but with the viscous fan the engine just doesn't get hot. The fans do work , they run with the air con on. I'll have to wait and see.  :-/
