Tunnies LPG car...
« on: 06 January 2008, 15:57:17 »

Tunnie popped up to collect some followers today so gave his project car the once over for him

1) Got the multirams working, front vac solenoid was broken so repaired it, vac pipes were wrongly connected to the vac tank and generaly all over the place.

2) Main vac feed for the multirams and air injection was not connected to the brake servo pipe.

3) Connector not on in the ECU box resulting in the air injection not working and a code being flagged as a result.

4) Quick once over with Tech2.

The noise is definately one follower on the 2-4-6 bank but, when changing it the oil ways should be checked as well (remove the T vents and check them to).

Its got an oil leak.....left its mark on my drive  :o

Its had an engine change and its not been done to well, all sorts of plumbing and wires all over the shop some of which we managed to sort.

The LPG wiring needs tidying up.

Other than that its not to bad, wants a good clean.

cheers for giving a look over!

Sorry about the oil leak  :-[ :-[ - Did not realise it had one or i would have left in on the road, is a big stain?  :-[ :-[

Thanks for getting the multi-rams working, much more pickup load down now!  :)

Trouble is its still only getting 18mpg on gas  :( - I cruised about 80 all the way few bits at 90.... but not exactly a heavy foot and this was all motorway miles.... so 36mpg effective is not that great, my 2.2 can do that

You're paying the wrong price.

you shold be able to get around 36p-38p

Look up all your local bottled gas suppliers including building supplies (Carvers in Wolverhampton is extremely cheap)

I suspect the knackered stat is affecting consumption due to it running on cold start cycle all the time.

Nice one Mark

Tunnie and I will have a gander at the other issues when we meet up :)

I agree it was just a general mess in there - but you should have seen the LPG plumbing before we had a go at it!!!

Did you like my coolant pipe bodges when we rerouted the feed to the evap? Those bolts ARE only a temp measure, and Tunnie WILL get the correct replacement hoses ;D

(At least the evaporator gets hot now!)

Tunnie - I only get around 20mpg on gas with an SGI system at those speeds, and that's in a manual...

Its the wiring!

Took the lid off the ecu box and nearly fell over, bare connections, bits of insulating tape.

It needs tidying up realy and some heatshrink to finish it off.

out of sight of of mind  ;)

It works! I was always taught a very important rule... if its working, don't fix it!  ;)

James - If yours getting 20mpg at motorway speeds on gas, then my 18 does sound right for a mixer.....

BUT if that is the case.... i might as well run my 2.2 as that would get 35 on a run, more like 30 if speeds where 90 though, but still thats on 6mpg better.

Got the lifters so going to make start on that next weekend, my only problem is i don't have a vice.

Tunnie, I have a small vice you can borrow, but no soft jaws for it, so you'll have to improvise.

I may not be about, as I'm secretly hoping to get my sump fixed asap, so as soon as the bits turn up and someone is free, I may be out for a day ;).  Never got round to attaching vice to bench, so is 'portable'  :-[

You dont need soft jaws.....just a rag will do.

Couldnt talk to the MID with Tech2, managed to talk to the radio though.
