A question for the techie types out there!!

I've got a bunged up crankcase venting system which, when I change the blown rocker cover gaskets at the weekend, I will be cleaning out.

In the meantime, is there anything I can do - in terms of driving style - to minimise the oil loss? Does any particular type of engine load make the crankcase pressure higher or lower?

The more load the more pressure, in general.

Could just leave the dipstick loose in its' tube, although it might make a mess. :-/

So the gentler the better then. Ta.

As for the mess - it's doing enough of that already!! But I might give it a go as oil running down the outside of the dipstick might drain somewhere other than via the hot exhaust!

I think thats what caused mine to go.

When I bought it there were no oil leaks at all, car seemed well looked after, low miles, had a tow bar fitted, but over all, nice car (apart from the single rear spring replaced)

1st day of ownership, maxed the auto in 3rd, oil leak ever since. :-/  Only a licckle bit though.

Take the filler cap of and replace with a piece of Gauze held on with a cable tie ?

Do they do any sort of filler gap that vents due to high pressue, reason I say this, you could be on a steady run comming back from the coast foe example and use the kick down mode 2 oe 3 times only hene only building the presure for a few seconds.

Keep the breathers clear and there's no reason for anything elaborate.

Besides, if the breathers are clear, anything that could vent the crankcase could also cause an induction air leak and poor running.

The sorts of ideas I was after were temporary things to reduce the leak up to the weekend - when the leak will be getting fixed and the breathers cleared.

Generally gentle driving seems the simplest!
