V6 front brake disc noise
« on: 05 August 2010, 23:37:22 »

My drivers side front brake disc is making a nasty scraping noise.. sounds like a crushed coke can scraping against the disc. I removed the wheel and slowly rotated the disc itself and the noise is apparant for about 1/3 of each rotation with very slight resistance while noisy.. pads are a little worn but never heard this sort of noise before. No noises when braking & passenger side is fine  :question

have a look round the rear of the disc the dust guard may be catching
Is there a wobble on the steering wheel when the brakes are pressed whilst driving??

don't want scored discs so if the dust guard is clear i'll fit new pads. warning from pad sensor hasn't come on & only scrapes through 1/3 of rotation

only 1/3 of rotation is a sign of warped disc thats why i said about wheel wobble whilst braking whilst driving

had crossed my mind, i'll look for uneven wear on the pads. if need be, also replace discs.

:D Its probably a stone lodged between the disk back plate and the disk. Thery can flick off the road and adhere to the backplate from a newly surfaced road.
If there is no wheel wobble and the pads are of a good thickness a stone is the better probablitiy.
5 minutes to check and put yourself at ease.
Wear sensors will not cause this noise!
