my 3.2 auto that i've just picked up died while trying to reverse up a slight incline out of a parking bay, it took a good few attempts and stalls before it managed it.

no eml lights came on,

what should it be idling at as it seems like there wasn't enough revs to get it up the slope.

mines idling just above 500

Just above 500 is fine.

Something is wrong if it's stalling, though.

i know about knock sensors from my vectra gsi

does the camshaft sensor show up because the engines not running?

Other two sensors I believe are a prime case for getting trapped afterwork done perhaps? Cam covers possibly?

Cam sensor almost bullet proof on v engines, almost.

Well, it looks like the engine management light has been removed or the bulb has blown (the codes are flashed out on the emissions light which is a separate circuit).

Cam sensor and / or knock sensor? Both not common failures in themselves but they are both connected close together on the loom, just at the front of the cable tray that runs along the passenger side cam cover.

I can't remember if they have the same type of connector but possible the two connections have been swapped over perhaps? Failing that look for any damage to the wiring loom in that area.

the exhaust emission light (little engine) doesn't come on with the ignition but the engine electronics light (car+spanner) comes on and goes off when started

Ahh. Wrong way round. In that case I'm surprised the EML isn't on given the faults, unless they are not currently present.

Agreed.

I was expecting to see a 0335 in the list. Might still be a crank sensor issue, I suppose. Knock sensor won't cause any stalling issues. Cam sensor will probably cause it to run rough but as you say, I'd be surprised if it causes stalling.

Worth a chat with a Tech 2 and a look at the live data, IMHO.
