once again i am humbly seeking advice of the forum i have had my car serviced by local mechanic and i told him to use GM oil he said ok when i got it back on the invoice it said 11.1/2 pints Comma XFlow Semi synth 10 40 £20 24 i challanged him over it and he said it is as good or even better than GM oil before i have it taken out is it ok and can i leave it till next oil change which will not be by him and definatly GM 10/30

That Comma oil is fine, no need to drain and refill.  If you want a mechanic to use a specific oil it is best to provide it yourself.  I doubt that he has an account with Vx so they would not deliver to him.  That means he would have to take time to go and fetch it and charge that time out to you at anywhere from £25 to £125 per hour, depending on his rate.
This just illustrates the benefit of doing it yourself, you know what parts have been used and you know the job has been done, not just charged for.

Comma is owned by Esso (Exxon Mobil) and is rumoured to supply Halfords own brand oil. I wouldn't worry about its quality.

I believe Vauxhall semi synthetic is also 10W 40. If you want a Vauxhall 10W 30 oil then it will cost you more as I believe its fully synthetic.

I have no problem with Comma products, but prefer GM. I would also check how much oil your 3.2 holds, not the 11.1/2 pints you are charged for.

11.5 pints? 11.5 x .568litre = 6.532 litres of oil. That's alot isn't it. i thought they hold about 5.75 litres to max mark on dipstick?

3.0 holds 5.75 lites, which was the first thing I thought as I read the thread.

5.75 litres = 10.1185812 Imperial pints

My dad had his Volvo V70 serviced last week. He showed me the invoice. £70 for 5 litres of 5w30 fully synth.

Thanks very much for all your replies yes it does look like hes overcharghed on the oil amount but it does look like its over top of the stick but not extra 2 pts thanks again
so in answer to my original question the oil is ok then
as ive never heard of comma

Comma oils - I remember the name from being a kid, along castrol etc.

As long as its better than the vans!! 

I always chuck about a pint of fresh oil in when the sump plug is out to flush it through a bit, so maybe that's what's happened in this case

Comma are a very reptable oil supplier. I would have no complaint putting this oil in any of my cars.

In fact, they are often priced just below premium products such as Castrol.

I change my fully-synthetic oil every six months so find as long as it meets ACEA A3/B3 standards (If it does it will say so on the bottle) then I do not really worry about the manufacturer.

ASDA recently had 5w40 fully synthetic for sale at £10 for 5 litres.

Thanks all for taking trouble to reply I really appreciate your advice Thanks again Ill leave it till next change it will be changed in run up to winter i only do about 5k between changes
