« on: 15 August 2010, 22:52:10 »

Hi can anyone tell me if there is any difference between a 2.5 and a 2.6 cylinder head gasket ?
Also my 2000 2.5 omega as started used lots of oil (no leaks) but oil light started to come on went warm on tick over but goes out if revs increased slightly any ideas ?

Yes the 2.6 and 3.2 are a multi layer gasket where the 2.5 and 3.0 are not :y

Been given 2.6 head gaskets for nothing but have not started to strip heads off my car yet so was just checking if anyone knew before I started.

going to try and see if they fit as being multi layered steel they will act like the uprated ones you can get for k series rover engines .As driving hard for 70 miles a day means head gaskets only  seam to last 12 months (running on gas as well.) :y

v6 head gaskets are very robust.  Incredibly rare to see one fail, beyond weeping coolant to outside of block.

The V6 doesn't need MLS type it would appear...

As the bores are different and I would imagine the gaskets are of different thickness you will be wasting your time if you try to use the 2.6 gaskets. ;)
If your engine is blowing head gaskets on an annual basis then there is something very badly wrong with it, regardless of mileage covered. :-/

Third omega v6 I have had each one at some point I have needed to change the head gaskets may be running on lpg causing the problems or just the mileage I do each car has been over 150 thou. (always at the speed limit  ;) )

So you've had to change a HG on each Omega once? Its not actually blowing a gasket multiple cars on the same car?

Also, I bet the HG failure is just a water weep out of the back of one of the heads?
