Aux.belt/tensioner??

hi guys - anyone got a link to fitting/adjusting aux.belt on 2.6 v6 ? - is the tensioner pulley on a pre-tensioned spring? TIA  :y :y

The pulley (top left pulley) is sprung loaded so should automatically tension the belt.

My tensioner packed in lastnight, leaving me stuck lol.

If your tensioner is weak, it's held to engine with two Torx Bolts.  Simple job to replace, and the tensioner is £50-£60.

Not done a 2.6 .. but done a 2.5 and a 3.2 .. :)

15 mm ring if memory serves ... on the centre bolt of the pulley... to release the tension apply force in a clockwise direction (tightening), tensioner will move against the spring, slide the belt off.

To replace the pulley only, once the belt is off, same nut but in the anticlockwise direction (undo), remove and the pulley drops away. Pulley is obtainable on its own if the bearing has gone .. despite what some parts depts say. I did it up until tight against the tensioner spring + a tiny tweak, then refit the belt and slowly release the tension.

Takes about 15 minutes in total.  :)

Thanks for that Entwood.... didn't realise the bearing could be replaced on its own.  Just took mine off, and it's a 6203 bearing.

There are two types I can buy, one with rubber seals and the other with a metal surround.

I didn't say replace the bearing .. but the pulley on its own .. without the tensioner assembly !!!

Part no 9157962 for pulley 44L3 cost was £23.05 + VAT on 22/03/2008 ..  :)

Some parts depts will try and sell you the whole tensioner assembly at over £80 !!

Ahh, I see.  So you cant just replace the bearing?  The other components seem to be in fine order... it is just a standard bearing afterall?

I believe the pulley is swaged onto the bearing .. I can't remember seeing an easy way to remove the bearing, and at £25 for a new one why bother ???

I appreciate £25 is not a lot (especially when repairing an Omega) but payday isn;t until the 24th, and I could do with a working car before then  ;D

OK, I took mine to bits, there is  no 'pulley' as such.  The belt runs on the outer surface of the bearing.... it has a thrust washer inside and out (both different shape (flat washer on inside edge, curved washer on outer) then a guide washer to stop belt from falling off, followed by 15mm nut.

Does this sound right, or has my pulley disintegrated?  ;D

8 is the bit you buy seperately ..... pulley ..:)

Very interesting.

Mine is vastly different (1999 3.0)

Item 8 is simply a Bearing, and it doesn't have a bolt.  There is a threaded section coming from inside the tensioner.... everything is locked in place with a 15mm nut.  :-/

The threaded bit that's sticking out is a bolt with a shaped head. It's tapered like a countersink head bolt might be, but also has 2 flats which prevent is from turning while the nut is being tightened up. The bearing, as you say is a 6203 2RS (2 rubber seals) but the plastic pulley is moulded around the outer race slightly preventing from being pressed out without removing the plastic. I did look at replacing the bearing on mine but didn't as I didn't want to break the whole pulley into various bits .... as sod's law would dictate  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Ah, excellent.  I thought it was odd that the belt would just run on the outside of a bearing  ;D

So, just to clarify, that is the part number you specified above? (Part no 9157962 for pulley 44L3)

yup .. £25 ish 2 years ago, but also cost me £12 for 15mm ring spanner from Halfords and changed it in the car park !!!  I was down near southampton on holiday when it went ... the noise was horrendous !!

Luckily Picador PLC in Southampton had one, knew what I was after, and took ABS trade card. the guy even apologised that he could not lend me a spanner but gave me directions to Halfords !!!

Do you recommend using Genuine Vx Aux Belt, or any MotorFactor belt will do?  Also, if you dont mind, the part number for the belt from Vx.  Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but as I'm working all day tomorrow, I'll have to send 'the woman' to Vauxhall, and if I arm her with part numbers of what I NEED, I wont end up with a wiper blade and a dash bulb.  ;D  :y
