buttons on the dash
« on: 07 August 2010, 00:24:24 »

the buttons for the whole of the ac stuff have sort of peeled off or something, i mean due to touching and scratching and all, you can hardly make out wat each button is for.

Wondering if they could be replaced ??

It would be far easier to replace the whole climate panel, very easy to do. A perfect condition one is worth about £20, so not loads of money.

This type of coating is very easy to damage either by accident or just wear. Its easier to pop out the swithes and replace them from Ebay. did mine for just over a tenner. Dead easy and takes minutes with nothing to take apart.

I rubbed the coating off my previous Omega's fan button just by trying to clean it!! On my current one I try not to even touch them but if I do I find that short finger nails are a must as you can easily scratch off the rubberised coating. :y

The buttons aren't available on their own. So a replacement panel needed.

Very expensive from dealer, perfect 2nd hand ones hard to find.

Easy job to do, but does take a bit of time.  Hardest bit is removing the flippin' radio!

An easy cheap fix is matt black nail polish from the missus, yeah it covers the words for the lights to show through but in my opinion its better that than a big white worn button, plus its usually the buttons used most, and in paticular the 'OFF' button, so in theory you should know what the button does without a word on it.

Not an ideal long term fix but as i said far far better than a big white horrible button

Dont know how you would replace the buttons without removing and dismantling the panel. :-/ :-/

i really don't get why these buttons wear, we have 3 facelifts, all of them have buttons in perfect condition. I leave mine on Auto all the time, occasional front / rear de-mist. Most common button i use is slower fan speed to shut the climate up, i press this most days, but again thats still perfect and showing no sign of wear  :-/

They do wear. Its not a one off, the majority are worn.  Same happens with minifacelift buttons on the switches (also soft touch - hence why I fitted earlier facelift buttons to my MV6).

Whether the backlight softens the coating, then pressing pulls it off, or if its pure wear, the fact remains, there are poor quality.

My Elite is perfect, Goldie (still got panel) is very good with just minor wear around fan down button.

I tend to program climates now to disable auto fans programs.
