Beep Beep Beep Beep
« on: 12 September 2010, 15:49:12 »

I'm not going crazy as other people have heard it. Sometime when I get out of my V6 Omega auto facelift, I will lock the car and a few seconds latter the car makes a very audible beep, beep, beep, beep. Always four beeps - what is it?

2nd Problem. I seem to be experiencing auto gearbox problems in that it can jerk sometimes when going from 3rd to 4th. Also, when I start the car first thing in the morning and put it in reverse. It take a couple of seconds before it seems to engage and start to move back.

Last problem. After I have been driving the car for about 10 minutes and the engine has warmed up, on pulling off from standstill, the engine splutters a bit. I did have a problem with water getting into the plug wells below the near side coil pack. I've since reseated it and hope that will cure it. Could it be the coilpack is breaking down due to this water ingress.

1 - Four beeps indicative of the Power Sounder batteries on thier last legs.

2 - Check transmission fluid level re.  jerky changes.

3 - This delay in reverse first thing in morning is apparently quite normal, it takes a few seconds for the transmission fluid to circulate.

4 - Coilpack possibly, but I would check plugs and leads first.

1. 4 beeps - NiCd batteries in power sounder as above.

2. check the autobox fluid level as above

3. again - check the autobox fluid level. I have a 2.6 auto and I haven't noticed a delay on engaging reverse. It is programmed to allow the engine revs to rise more than normal when cold to aid engine warm up but delayed gear changes and thumping into gear indicate low fluid or worn internals.

4. 2.6 doesn't have plug leads. Yes water could have damaged the coil packs. Do the 'pedal trick' and check for fault codes.

I think the 2.6 is clever enough to tell you which cylinder(s) are misfiring. Read how here Paper Clip Test & Pedal Trick.

Thank you for your helpful replies. Is it best to disconnect the power sounder or replace the item. I am the sort that likes to have everything attached and working as it should so have you any recommendations as to where I purchase a new power sounder?

Some members have disconected, but if you do remember to inform your insurance company.

They apparently cost around £65 new from Vx.

Whatever you decide, please ensure you remove the old unit a.s.a.p as they have been known to cause a serious fire if left!! :o :o :o

Do you think that if I upgraded my transmission ecu, this would help with the gearbox problems? I live in surrey so any recommendations of where to get this done would be appreciated.

Yes it would be a good idea to disconnect it until you decide what you want to do.
There are a few threads going where members have or are in the process of replacing the batteries.

Disconnect the powersounder and remove it, replacement is between you/your conscience/your insurance co. ;)
Tech2 transmission upgrades will make your box smoother in every way imo. Nearest Tech2 to you would probably be Kevin Wood in Alton Hampshire. :y

Funnily enough, I have been hearing these beeps from my car today, do I will be removing the powersounder tomorrow.
