hi all
i have a problem with water getting into the rear nearside footwell which is soaking the carpet, any ideas where to start looking? really annoying !!!

First place to check is for a blocked water channel next to the pollen filter (under the bonnet.... just in front of the glove compartment). Somebody else had exactly the same problem a week or so back.

If it were the scuttle drain I would expect to see wet carpets at the front?

Do you have a sunroof? The drains can become blocked.
Also check for loose rubber seals around the windows and check the rear lights for leaks and the boot lid car body for damage/corrosion.

This is a common occurrance with a blocked passenger scuttle drain. The water takes the path of least resistance (a bit like me with my missus!  ) & runs to the rear footwell.

I concur. It normally follows the rear warm air channel back into the rear footwell. Park it facing downhill and it will fill the front to

Clear out the skuttle and remove the carpets and padding from the passenger side to dry properly, don't leave them in the car to dry as they will stink!

I concur is it worth taking out the grommet thing at the base of the scuttle and throwing  it away?

Agreed .. the soundproofing will hold a LOT of moisture, and bacteria will grow very quickly ... once they start to smell they are very difficult to clear. Spend some time NOW making sure everything is as dry as possible will safe a huge amount of work/hassle later...  been there .. got the t-shirt .. and it's one I wish I hadn't got !!!

Had exactly the same problem, a dry front carpet & soaking wet rear & sure enough  a blocked scuttle drain.

No, it's there for a reason, just check it regularly

thanks everyone for the advice it was the scuttle drain, taken carpets etc out to dry properly as i dont want that t'shirt  all round

Yes I know check it regularly but once you have had the wet carpet syndrome the checking becomes a bit of an obsession. perhaps there should be a float in there to warn when it starts to fill up
