I know it's a well hammered topic ......
As mentioned in another topic I went to Edinburgh, and , as you do I reset the fuel trip.
The last time I went anywhere (without a caravan ) the best consumption I've ever seen on my 99 3.0 Elite has been about 27mpg driving at a steady 75 mmph using cruise. Wed afternoon with 4 adults in the car I saw an incredible 32.4mpg at a steady 80mph (once I'd got pased the M55  ) Even after driving around Edinburgh's traffic free city centre   for a day, the return to home - without resetting the trip - I've still got nearly 29 mpg!
I haven't done anything in particular that I think has contributed to an increase in mpg. Perhaps I should apply to the Pope for miracle status!

I tend to do most of my travelling on the motorway...usually at 60mph to avoid the idiot white van and BMW drivers.

I frequently get 39-40mpg at that speed...from my '98 3.0...However, as soon as I even look at the pedals, that plummets.

Well after complaining about the mpg i get out of the Elite (mostly town driving) i was shocked just how great it is on a run....cant remember exactly now (think i posted them before) believe they were around 30 + mpg.

Just simply turning the ECO on has made a major difference....5/7 mpg extra by having it on,mind you i do drive like a grandad which kinda begs the question why did i buy a 3.0 ltr.

anything abover 30mpg is good with an Omega.

On a run i currently get 20mpg with my 2.5V6, however i am running LPG and that is half the price of petrol

... that's something else though I need to get to the bottom of. The car mists up all the time when it's raining unless I have the CC set at just the screen - fan knocked down to 4/5 though. WhenI got back last night i noticed that the REAR screen was still misted up between the high/eye level brake light & the glass. :-? That was after 4 hours on the motorway.

there are two vents in the rear quarter that should allow the freeflow of air.

if you have too much in the right hand storage 'cubby hole' it will stop the vents froom working and causes misting

They're both clear. I did have a bottle of screen wash that'd fallen in front of them, it was full of condensation when removed   but there's nothing there now. Earlier last year I found the front passenger side footwell FULL of water - scuttle drains already clear - but I couldn't find an obvious point of entry, and it seemed to stay dry after I'd dried it out. I think the 2 are connected.

I think it sounds silly but I find that my car does better on MPG when sitting at 80-85 mph, I drop to 70 mph and you see the computer consumption drop too.
I was told years ago that 3000 rpm was a cars engine cruising speed....

Just been having a play with the air con/CC. Just had it on 'LO' for the last few minutes home and the dryer? (ally wotsit in the rubber refrigerant line) isn't at all cold. Something else to spend some money hard earned on if I want it to work as intended.

Just thinking that the system may just need a regas. do you get a jump in the rpm with the c/c is swiched on?.

When I was working away from home, I had a 200 mile drive to kill, so I spent many hours playing to see what works and what doesn't.

Switching the air-con off (ECO button) only gave about 2mpg.
60mph gave 40mpg.
70mph gave 30-35mpg (depending on hills 'n' stuff).
80mph gave 25mpg.

I was bored...very bored...very bored indeed. Burgess Hill is a long way from Stafford.
