gearbox problem and removal
« on: 21 September 2010, 19:27:49 »

Hi to all,
Please can you help this issue has just blown my brains , the gearbox slips but  in third and going in to overdrive but this happens now and again not all the time i have plugged it in to a computer diagnoses and it reads no faults. so i have kind of given up and thinking of changing the gearbox so i suppose the question is how easy is it to change, so as anyone got any tips or advice would be great or maybe even a gearbox for the 2.5 omega elite.
Cheers Bob :-[

Auto gearbox removal reasonably easy.
Get car up reasonably high on ramps
You need to remove both cats.
Bellhouse bolts some difficult to reach - you need good socket set and extensions.
Torque converter needs to be unbolted from flywheel so that it comes out with box.
Gearbox is heavy - around 100kg - needs a couple of people and a good trolley jack to drop and put back up!
Done 2 now
Good luck with yours

Had a similar problem recently with my 3.2 which has only 74000mls on the clock, filter and atf change seems to have cured the problem (thanks DLK) If you have'nt done this yet it's got to be worth a try and it may well turn out to be a cheap fix.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.
