A Warning Light's Flickered
« on: 23 September 2010, 21:16:44 »

Oh the joys, on my way into work happily sauntering along on the M6
in my newly bought Omega  I did notice a quick flash.
It happened about 5 times...  it was faster than the     priority boarders on a Ryan Air flight who shove past you in desperation to get the one seat on the flight, ...
the engine pulls well, doesn't heat up all temperature normal, but the one that flashed at me was      a little orange engine icon,
Its rattling underneath but not very loudly but enough to annoy the pants off Pope Denedict' remember tolerance is a virtue or was that patience....
anyway it sounds like the 'cat' so would this light up an engine management light noble folks ?

I cannot answer your query I'm afraid, but I will point out that your avatar is too large and his blocking some of your text.

Please re-size to 110 x 110 or less ;) ;)

Re: OOF Guidelines

"Avatars and Signatures
Not everyone has a 20 meg broadband connection to the forum and some use mobiles/PDA's.  Please keep avatars to below 75k to avoid annoyance to low bandwidth users. Also, keep the maximum size to 110 x 110 pixels.

For the same reasoning as per avatars, please keep signatures to less than 3 lines of std text. If using images, the maximum height is the equivalent of 3 lines of std text, and no wider than 640 pixels."

As Lizzie says .. avatar oversized .. and IMHO.. there is no need to make your text twice the size of everyone else's.. it won't get you any better answers.. and might well actually put some people off.

As to the light flicker .. you could always try the "paperclip trick" and see if anything comes up, failing that you'll need a code reader plugged in to see any "pending" codes.

Well it's a classy avatar, whether too big or not...

Oddly enough noticed (I think) the same on my car today, but so quick I don't know which light it was for sure. So I'll tick your thread and also say welcome boughtonthecheap (good username too  :y :y)

The rattle from underneath may well be just an exhaust heat sheild which has worked loose. Its pretty common. I currently have one rattling myself.
As Entwood said, try the paperclip test and see if you have any fault codes stored. That may help with diagnosing why you have the flashing light. ;)

Hey thanks & for the welcome too, nice to meet you.
Its in for an MOT tomorrow so I'll see if a diagnostic test can be done, I'll keep you posted on the result, fingers crossed it will pass, & I won't be cryin in the rain, literally as it'll be the bus stop for me,

The garage will probably charge you a silly amount of money to plug a diagnostic reader in. You will get the same info if you acquire a paperclip and follow the simple instructions in the link below. ;)

Hi Botcy, take advantage of the MOT and have a look underneath while it's up on the ramp.
Give the cat and heat shield a thump and listen for the
rattle.

Great advice,  a friend of mine who has a garage will check it for me before I take it for the MOT, its an LPG garage so if the fuel consumption keeps me awake at night I'll be calling in a favour. I have never heard of the paper clip test, I'll read through the posts when I have time & find out.

The paper clip test is a way of finding out why the warning light came on. Click on the link, in the 'quote' above, and all should be revealed.

Saying that if the light only flashed on briefly whilst you were driving then I'd just ignore it. That is the official advice given by Vx in their owners manuals...

Light flickering will mean a fault code stored, easiest and cheapest way to read the fault code is to follow the paper clip test link, it is the best advice  :y

Count the flashes accurately, and post the numbers on here, we can advise the best cause of action.

With respect to your friends garage, I have yet to encounter one that knew the first thing about the omegas quirks, it us not a straight forward engine in that respect.

Far better to post the code info on here first, then ask the garage to act on those results and answers given here.  :y
