Think I did very well at Halfords on Wed here goes-Called in to my local cut throat shop and priced the only brand of oil I put in Miggies sump. £35 for 5 ltrs very cheap I thought. As I didn't feel happy at spending my cash with this supplier, for several reasons I'd rather not talk about I decided to make the 3ml journey to Halfords and check out their price it was £47.99.So I had a word with the shop assistant who I believe must have gone to the manager he came back and asked me to get him the phone No and he would see what he could do.So I returned home (2mls) and brought him back my laptop with the shops website showing the product @ £35.Result was a price match so it cost me £70 for 2 5Lt bottles,(needed 6Lt) I'll save the balance for next time. I must confess I felt well satisfied. After all I've used Halfords since my early motoring days,I know lots will think loyalty is a misplaced factor I thought I'd have a go and they responded in a proper commercial manner

Agreed - the Vauxhall oil is hard to beat.  Join AutoBahn Stormers for twenty quid and you get a trade club card which gives you the semi synthetic at £32.79 for 20 litres (or £10.89 for 5 litres) and the full synthetic at £45.99 for 20L, all exclusive of VAT.   :)

And the oil filter for mine is under four squid.   :y

Oh, and a little tip re the Halfords sale – I had one of their £10 vouchers to use up and decided to buy their professional E-Torx ratchet set, already reduced from £39.99 to £15:00.  This is then reduced to £12.75 for this discount weekend.

But it turns out that they won’t let you use the £10 voucher on top of this unless you have reserved the product on line (don’t ask me why).  By chance I had done this so I got my £39.99 spanners for a grand total of £2.75, which suits my Scottish genes very well.   ;)

Search for 537167 on their site if you’re interested.

The oil I use is the one I've always used for the last 20Yrs and it has proved itself to me to be a true long life product, even before I started to reduce the service periods by more than half.  I have posted up before about it and I soon realised oil is a bit like tyres a personal choice.I did get a case of the GM oil with the intention of haveing  reduced service mls as is recommended and quiet early on bottled out and returned back to my old ways, this has left me with about 13 ltrs on the garage shelf surplus to requirement. No disrespect to the GM product no doubt its a good oil I just didn't want to risk changeing from a course proven to myself over the years

You stick with it Cliff, for the sake of a few quid you know that your engine is being treated right.
But what are you doing on the forum in the wee hours? Get some sleep man!  ;)
