Possible project?
« on: 12 January 2008, 11:39:26 »

I really need an estate to cart my dogs around. I'm fed up with the Facelift being made dirty and the interior being knocked about.

How about this? And what do you rekon it's worth?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150203488637&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=005

I'm sure I could repair it no probs, but would need to take transport costs into consideration.

Views welcome. I'm thinking less than £200....

Looks as if it fits the bill.....

HG not too bad on 2.0. Know anyone with a car trailer?

I suppose you could always disconnect the prop and tow it. Really need a cradle though to lift the front wheels off the ground.

Isn't there a nearby OOfer who could loan you a driveway for a day?

Brighton... in the Region of Mr Wood  ::)  ;D

I've emailed the seller to see if it drives at all. If so, may try and limp it home in stages like I did the Elite.

I'd prefer to do a proper head off - valve out job on it...

Probably still 50 miles or so from me. You'd be welcome to bring it here and we'll sort the HGF, if that helps :y

Don't suppose there's a spare head knocking about that you could prep in advance?

Trouble is its been around for a long while, and its very early (I thought the early 94 select ones were the 8V engine ?). The miles are very low, which suggests its been doing lots of short journeys, or been laid up for several years, so chassis rust may be a problem, and things will tend to be worn out. You may do a cracking job on the engine (as you do!), but at the end of the day, you've got an old car that will not be worth a lot if you sell it. Suppose you spent 5 days working on it, sorting out all the niggly faults. If you spent the time earning (overtime?), you could put a chunk more towards a newer car and get something a lot better. There seem to be a lot of 1998 - 2000 cars about at very good money, plus the forthcoming road tax rise may further knock back prices. You could always put a rug on the back seat to save damage.

Pretty much said already James. Mileage is good but nearly no MOT. Take £200 purchase price, HG fix, Test fee + any work transportation fees etc you could be up to £4/500.     Sorry to be negative, could turn out to be a genuine find. I'd be tempted to go & look at it first. If you see it & do'nt want it you can have fish'n'chips & run the dogs on the beach!!!!!!!! :y

i would say no as well......costs looking more like £400 - £500 when completed and mot`d.

Also.....look at that mileage for an old car..is it genuine.

And HGF is down to poor maintinance - so what else is about to go.

I suppose it is a cheap way of solving a problem but it's also another car that's got to be taxed, insured and tested every year. :-/

Maybe chop in the Facelift for an estate then?

Maybe I should have put more thought into this before I gassed it  :-/

It's all very well covering the seats, but muddy dogs scratch doorcards, and all sorts  :'(
