tickover
« on: 10 October 2010, 14:00:29 »

hi all (again)
took 3.2l out for a spin (awesome in sport)  ;)
noticed though that the tickover is very low approx 500rpm which is causing the car to shake at idle also the oil light flickers to the the same beat (dont do discos) if i raise the revs slightly the shaking goes and the oil light goes off, is there any way to adjust tickover  :-?
thanks

The V6's tick over at about 500rpm with a/c  off or about 600rpm with a/c on, so sounds about right. It should still be smooth on tickover.

Is there a slight misfire, causing it to vibrate? This was the problem on mine - I had water in the spark plug wells because the scuttle cover was leaking onto the coil packs, a common problem on these cars

hi mate,

it should idle at 500rpm.

however mine at the moment vibrates and jumps about when im stationery from betwen 500 & 1000 rpm.

i have mine booked in this week to clean the idle control valve and replace it necasary. this should sort it out :)

Doesn't sound at all good :(

First thing I would do is drop the sump / oil pan and clean all the crud out of the sump and oil pump strainer.

Second thing I would do is clean all the crankcase breather pipes.

Third thing I would do is lift the nearside coil pack off and check for water or oil in the plug wells.

500rpm is not too low for a V if the climate is set to off, with it on a normal idle is only about 600-700.

What is a concern is the oil light! Have you had any oil cooler work, how often have oil and filter been changed?

I'd be tempted to drop the sump as AndyH suggests see whats lurking in that sump!

Also check the spark plugs for any oil/water  :y
