howdy y'all, i need your help folks, does anyone know the part number for the abs ecu on an MY2000 (facelift) 3.0 manual? i have all the signs of an ecu failure - TC/ABS lights on, speedo dropping out, i have cleaned the hub sensors to no avail - not that i really expected it to work  i am going to try to source the ecu through a breaker (or ebay) and rather than strip it out to find the part number i thought i would ask if anyone knows the number first and then hopefully only have to take the unit off when putting the replacement on seeing as how it isn't going to be a 5 minute job  , cheers all

The best bet is to get your current ECU refurbed, TBH.

It needs to come from a car with the same config. (Engine size, transmission type, number of ABS channels). Otherwise, even if the ECU is the same physical part it will need reconfiguring with a tech 2 to match your car.

The likes of BBA reman will turn one round in a couple of days typically.

New one is silly money ... around £600 if memory serves. get yours repaired for £150ish with a 2 years warranty by BBA Reman as Kevin said. I used them about 4 years ago ... well impressed

yea like others have said done mine last year 110 quid from BBA Reman

just rip it out and send it off you have back and in car in a couple of days

Just as a point of interest, does the ABS ECU part number refer to the programming then? or is there more than one different ECU, all of which may be reprogrammed to match a different set-up?

There is more than one type of ECU and hence the different part numbers, there is then also variant programming to suit the vehicle.

I must say that I use ECU testing as I have had issues with BBA twice now plus they are a little cheaper

looks like i'll need to rip it out asap, it's really starting to do my head in now & rather than being an intermittent problem it only now works for about 10 minutes when i start off in the morning and then cuts out & doesn't come back on until the next morning

i had to double the amount if pain meds when mine went

from what im told it the bonding wire that breaks in them

yeah so i gather, i had a trawl and found a pic of the ecu's frazzled connector 

i can live without the speedo (for a little while anyway) & i have sussed judging my speed from the rev counter now (or i use my nokia in sat nav mode to tell me) 

i had a boy in blue behind me t'other day (didn't have my nav on at the time) & i could just picture his face if he had stopped me & asked me if i knew what speed i was doing! 'erm.............i don't really know officer as...well it's like this...............'

it aint that bad of a job

just pull out batery fuse box remover top radiatior hose
and it a lot easyer if you remoe pas steering resvore as well but your need fluid for refilling

i found easy east way to get out was with two pepole

by un doing the nuts that hold whole abs thing to the metal bracket

then gently lift unit up while second person undos then hard to get at  botom bolts

the abs lines with flex enoutgh to do it if your carefull and dont go mad

when mine went it was garanted drivng down road was fine and the buger would work as soon as i got to carpark it would cut out

same leaving no power steering getting out of parking place

50 yards down road it would work again

My abs ecu has been knacked since I got my miggy.
I've been doing a couple of miles a week around the farm (tarmacced, but private roads) just to keep everything moving, and I hadn't even noticed that there's no power steering - probably because my old tin-worm transit didn't have it - what it did have was a VERY tight universal joint on the steering (rack?/arm/connector thing from the steering wheel) - I had to use all my upper body to pull the steering wheel round.

The miggy feels as light as a feather, god knows what it will be like when I get the abs ecu replaced...
