Oh dear. First problem, and it's a good one.

I bought the Omega last week, (2003 2.6 CDX auto). Since then I've been a bit busy, and as I was waiting for my Trade Card to turn up, didn't really have any need to enter or move the car.

Well, I've just gone out now to have a look at the mileage, and I can't get the bloody thing to open.

The battery in the key fob is flat, and was when I bought it. This wasn't really a problem as I could lock / unlock it by just using the key. Also I suspected that the car battery was on it's last legs as well.

So, I've just gone out to the car, put the key in the door lock and turned it, and nothing. Tried turning the key through 180 degrees and tried again but nothing.   :-?

I can't see how replacing the battery in the key fob will make any differance if the car battery is flat as well. So besides smashing the glass, do any of you chaps have any other suggestions or ideas on how to unlock the car? Obviously I can't open the bonnet to jump start the car, as I cant open the car to get to the bonnet release.

are you saying the key is actually turning in the lock but the lock isn't budging?

The key will manually open a dead locked car, it just doesn't feel like when you're trying to do it. You say you turned the key, did you try the handle, daft I know, but the button doesn't always pop up when you've opened the car this way.

Only a little.

With my Land Rover, if the battery goes flat, (on the car and the fob), you can still unlock the drivers door only with the key. I assumed it would be the same on the Omega.

All that is happening is that the key turns slightly clockwise, but then meets quite a bit of resistance. So much so that it feels like if I turn in much more it will break the key.

I'd say that it is turning to between 1 o'clock and 2 o'clock in the barrel, but no more.

I'll try that, but as I said in the post above, it feels that if I try and turn it much more then I'll end up bending or breaking something.

That sounds about right  but it will unlock ..... honest. I've been there & done that.
If you don't like the idea of breaking your key in the lock, you could jack the fron near side up & connect 12 volts to the starter motor connections. That'll give power to the car enough for the microswitches in the door to open the car electrically via the key in the lock.

you will think your going to break the key, it takes a lot of effort. Is it just key fob battery thats dead? Can you not raid the battery from any other old Vx keys?

Sorted. The door pin wasn't raising, nor as I turned the key did it 'feel' like the door was unlocking, but with a bit of jiggling and pulling the handle, the door did unlock.

Great!  Glad you're sorted. 

Boots sell the fob batteries - cheap and easy to change.

Just incase a key will not open the door the connecting another battery to the starter motor does  the trick  and I have seen a suggestion to put power into the car from a rear light

That'd only work if the light switch was on 
Prefacelift gives you the option of opening the boot with the key & then powering up the car via the boot light.

My battery was dead as a dodo after my car had been stood for nearly 4 weeks.I got strange looks climbing through my boot to get to the bonnet release lever after I had deadlocked my car! Thank god I have got an estate I would never have managed it in a saloon.

It'd have still been possible, you can drop seats from the boot using a long slim screw driver ...... been there done that on my dead locked & de-locked  Senator.
